St Petersburg Two

St Petersburg is a collection of islands. Lots of canals but these are only used by tourist craft. Still, it was nice to see the city from them.

Some action on the river bank received loud applause. Dont think they heard though.

The Peter and Paul Cathedral on Peter and Paul Fortress. A very elegant spire.

The cruiser Aurora from WW 1 is a treasured relic. It fired the shot to signal the start of the Bolshevik revolution, which our Moscow guide so pined for. In WW 2 they sank the vessel to protect it from german bombing.

Signs on the barge say something in Russian. They probably say "Duck" because most of the bridges will take off the top of your head. This gentleman had had a good liquid lunch and gave us a fright by leaving it to the very last moment on one occasion.

We were reasonably lucky with the weather on the canal trip. A little cool but could have been worse. St Petersburg gets 60 sunny days each year on average. Which is not many is it.
